Markus Schulz Partners Up to Open New Fate Nightclub

South Florida has a new hotspot that will go Down the Rabbit Hole into the mornings with Markus Schulz as a partner along with Ramzi Naber and Joe Franco. Fate Nightclub had a soft opening last night where Grube & Hovsepian dropped a surprise set that wasn’t so much a surprise after they made a mention of it on their Twitter account. Markus Schulz also surprised the crowd when he got behind the decks and kicked things off with an opening set. Markus and the rest of the Coldharbour team were all present on Friday night to celebrate the opening that started at 9 pm and went until 5 am. The club was granted a license to stay open until 6 am seven days a week, so you can expect that sets will likely go until the sun rises.

That’s right, Markus Schulz has a club in South Florida and where on Saturday nights the tag line is Down the Rabbit Hole. The Schulz Army has a new travel destination! How often he’ll be playing there or how often other Coldharbour talent will be present is still unknown but we all know these guys are experts at the dance club scene so they are a perfect fit.

We’ve heard that there is a possible grand opening event scheduled in late June or mid July and we’ll be continuing to lead with breaking news as we find out more details.

Here’s some more information announcing the club:

Markus Asked, The Army Asked, The Guvernment Listened

Markus Schulz and The Guvernment Nightclub in Toronto announced in early April that Markus was finally booked to be playing his first ever solo marathon set at the club that was recently ranked at #22 by Dj Mag in their Top 100 list.

There’s more to the story than just a simple booking though. The story involves Markus saying that he’d love an opportunity like this, an online petition asking for it and a lot of tweets and Facebook posts asking the club for it. If you read enough tweets or posts on Facebook from fans to their favorite dj’s asking for a gig the common response will be, “ask your local club or promoter to make it happen.” That’s exactly what happened here and here’s how it happened.

Markus has played short sets and even as long as 6 hours at The Guvernment in the past but he has never gone the distance with a true open to close that a handful of other cities around the world have experienced. His last appearance at the club was for Labour of Love in September 2012 when he played for four and a half hours ending his set at 8am which is what really set all of this in motion. You can read my review of that set here.

His set from that event in Toronto was the Global DJ Broadcast World Tour edition that aired on September 13, 2012.

Markus Schulz Toronto 2009The Guvernment in Toronto was also chose for the 2009 city compilation based on his six hour set that year.

During that Sept 13, 2012 edition broadcast a question by Tim Gonzalez was brought up to Markus asking him about playing the deeper tracks he’s been known to play and Markus responded, “That is exactly the reason why they need me to play open to close. I can’t start off deep in the middle of a night after 2 or 3 DJs have been banging it out before me.”

“I could have ended it at 5, and would have been the wise decision after barely any sleep from NY the night before and playing in Montreal during the day,” Markus Schulz had said during a GDJB chat. “But I try my best to make the fans’ experience as best as possible.”

A lot of us had asked him more about this happening and Markus Schulz continued to say, “I would absolutely love if the Guv gave me that room or Koolhaus to play open to close. Might be worth you guys encouraging them.”

After I had read that I thought it was time to try and gather support for such a thing and get the attention of The Guvernment. One way to get attention was to start an online petition that gathered 398 signatures during the whole process. Not a lot of signatures but it created some buzz every week and sent emails to the club every time that someone signed off. This was spread every Thursday for months.

Was anyone listening to the constant emails? The tweets? The Facebook posts? They noticed.

In early March Markus had said that he knew talks had started with The Guvernment which was a great sign and that sometime towards summer was a possibility. And then things went silent. Just before the Winter Music Conference in Miami the latest word that was shared was that there were whispers but nothing else. It was time for WMC, Ultra Music Festival, Space in Miami, a lot of media, meetings, panels and of course the New World Punx events at A State of Trance 600 New York City and Bal en Blanc. In hindsight, I think that was his way of calming the buzz prior to those large events.

Fast forward to the April 4, 2013 edition of Global DJ Broadcast when this conversation took place:

Markus Marathon Guv Tease

The Guvernment had retweeted it which meant something was up.

Fast forward about two hours and the news was unleashed!

New World Punx: Markus Schulz & Ferry Corsten are Poised for World Domination by Elite Daily

Elite Daily conducted a video interview with the New World Punx that talks about how they got to where they are and where they’re going.

In this interview, the group discusses how the New World Punx came about, their long-term plans, how the two have mediated and created synergy between their differing sounds, and their focus on fun, spontaneity and excitement when performing live. The duo also discuss how their sound will differ when performing as New World Punx, catering more toward the younger generation of electronic dance music fans when touring under this title.

Watch the video here at Elite Daily.

The happiness and enthusiasm of Markus Schulz and Ferry Corsten is contagious, it’s no surprise the world loves them.

Review of New World Punx at A State of Trance 600 New York City

After seeing KhoMha’s show on a Friday in March in New York City, I was excited to see the super duo New World Punx (NWP), consisting of Markus Schulz and Ferry Corsten play at a State of Trance 600 on Saturday. The show sold out in one hour at Madison Square Garden, a massive arena which hosts the biggest sporting events in New York, a sign of just how big trance music has suddenly become today.

Markus Schulz is often described as a DJ’s DJ, a musician who fellow DJs study, imitate and admire due to his amazing skill, vast technical mastery and hooky, vibrant compositions. Schulz was named America’s Best DJ of 2012 by DJ Times.

Madison Square Garden was completely packed to the ceiling with crazy, berserk, screaming fans after I arrived and the show started.  At one point, right before NWP came on, the entire sound system blew up, dying for a tense 10 minutes during which time the crowd nearly turned into a mob. Fortunately the sound was restored quickly and everything was good.

NWP’s set was visceral, ethereal, dark and memorizing. The percussive keyboard style of the group was present in almost every element in their arrangements. At one point, the keyboards turned into a heavy, crushing bass that felt like it was going to vibrate your atoms apart.

New World Punx ASOT 600 Made Event

If Markus is dark than Ferry is light. Their two styles contrast and compliment each other quite nicely much like fire and oxygen. Their set twisted and deftly turned on so many hair pin, musical dimes it made you feel dizzily breathless. Unlike many DJs which just play the same old, tired riff over and over again, NWP didn’t have a set of songs, but instead an aggressive and sophisticated, series of hooks which could have been the basis for a 100 separate songs by themselves. The massive output was mind boggling and it is no wonder that Schulz has played long sets for hours and hours as a solo artist, together the group is a bottomless well of rich ideas.

The light show was hypnotic, an unreal hyper kinetic collection of images that made you feel as though you were in a higher, more enlightened state of transcendental being. It was like staring divinity in the face, both the devil and the angel together in one space, one group, until it was good, much like day and night coexisting to create a full normal day.

It’s no wonder that A State of Trance is one of the most successful world tours today. At the show, NWP not only showcased the future of trance but also set the standard for all live performing acts. If you have not seen NWP perform live it is recommended that you check them out when they come to town.
