Review: Dan Thompson “Mutiny”

Dan Thompson has been busy with Coldharbour Recordings recently with his second release on the label. Following his massive hit “Stealth”, the DJs of the Coldharbour family have been finding a home for this UK native’s new single “Mutiny” in their livesets.

Much like Thompson previous hit, his new tune also combines his Coldharbour influences with uplifting trance melodies. “Mutiny” wastes no time in the beginning to establish a sense of dominance brought on by a series of pounding drums and electronic synths. The track really starts kicking it into high gear once the familiar Coldharbour tech sounds joins the progressive bassline. When a comfortable sequence of hard drums is established, Thompson adds an uplifting keyboard melody to the big-room sound. The aggressiveness of the drums, blended with the smooth electronic tones, helps exhibit that sense of rebellious emotions of the track’s title.

It was difficult to followup such a hit like “Stealth”, but this Englishman did it. There are so many different sounds that are pitted against one another in this track, but Thomposon manages to skillfully side-chain every beat and synth to brings out the beauty of each one. Looking forward to see if Thompson will continue this path of Coldharbour influenced tracks or not, but nevertheless, whatever he releases will sure to be a future favorite.
