About Kostas Voulgaris

Born in the USA in the state of Michigan and currently residing in Greece, American Greek Kostas William Voulgaris discovered the wondrous world of dance music in 1999 and instantly was hooked. He began collecting CDs and discovering who his favorite artists were along the way. Some years later he began his own radio show entitled ‘Hidden Sun with DJ DragoN’ on Greece’s ‘Lightwave Radio’ and a few years later on ‘Generate Project’. Currently his radio show is frequently aired on France’s radio station ‘The Dome’. His love for dance music and the artists behind it led him to start writing articles about them for Generate Project (a music blog as well as 24/7 radio station) and had the honor of taking written interviews of esteemed artists of the scene such as Klauss Goulart, Jan Johnston, Khaz, Thomas Datt, Suzy Solar and more. He also reviewed EPs and singles of artists such as Daniel Lesden. In 2015 he decided to take things further and started his own blog called MusicTalk where he was blessed to have the opportunity of taking a written interview with singer/songwriter Jaren and wrote reviews for Daniel Lesden and Cosmithex. When he has free time he also indulges in his passion for creating music, making tracks under the artist name DJ DragoN and has had a few single releases such as: “Absynth”, “Meteors”, “A Separate Reality”, “Lost In The Moment” and "The Archer" on labels such as B-Sonic (DE), Universal Music Emotion (IT), Epic Forest Records (NL) and Xpuha Records (ES).

Review: Arkham Knights “Legacy”

After a line of rather impressive and intoxicating productions which include “Knightfall”, “Blackgate” and “Urban Decay” the Turner brothers (AKA Arkham Knights) are back in the spotlight with another high roller on Coldharbour. “Legacy” is a growing anthem in our midst. Containing most of the elements that define their distinct sound while at the same time, introducing new ideas to the mix as well.

Arkham Knights

“Legacy” is a title well suitable for this one as it has a lot to live up to. Fasten your seat belts and prepare yourselves for a flight to remember. Bumpy, techy, dramatic with sci-fi elements scattered throughout, Legacy charges forward at warp speed grasping our attention as mass amounts of techy tension get our blood pumping. Out of the fog the main melody rushes in like a breath of fresh air engulfing us. Our system is in an all time high, as we find ourselves kicking into overdrive carried away by a combination of melodic bliss and the techy frenzy that follows.

The guys need not worry, they have lived up to their legacy and bestowed a multifaceted anthem upon our eager ears while at the same time managed to get our feet busy once again!

Review: Anske “Unleashed”

Anke is at it again. Another anthem graces our presence from his debut E.P. on Coldharbour Recordings. Following suit to its predecessor, the already acclaimed “Epika”, “Unleashed” takes things down to a deeper, darker place. He takes us on a stroll down dark and eerie pathways while our senses begin to tingle from the thought of what may lurk around the corner. Around the bend the tracks breaks down, descending, while ghostly calls beckon us forward as we find ourselves surrounded by a rich and longing melody, playing the role of our host to a world where anything can be expected. In a flash the melodious lead takes over sending us to the highest heights, conquering our fears and we embark glorious on our conquest of life from a fresh perspective. If anything can be said about Anske is that he is certainly an artist to keep a close eye on in 2016. He hasn’t unleashed all his energy and diversity just yet. There is plenty more underway.

Review: Anske “Epika”

Hailing from Lithuania DJ/Producer Anske (real name Andrej Anskinas),has been on a roll, releasing one mega track after another. There is no wonder why “Epika” was instantly snatched up by the Coldharbour headquarters, as it fits in perfectly with all that the label itself represents.

Dark, menacing and dynamic are some of the key attributes of this power stormer. Starting off hot and heavy, steadily pacing us for the ultimate breakdown, our spirit and morale are instantly boosted when the lead melody kicks in. The feeling the listener attains is a grand one. Almost in the same way an army from ancient times may take heed of its revered leader and march relentlessly across the battlefield armed with a fierceness and iron determination, almost invincible. That is exactly what this track accomplishes. Inspiring and ruthless to it’s core, “Epika” shall remain carved within our memories for years to come!Anske

Review: Markus Schulz and Fisherman & Hawkins “Gotham Serenade”

Anyone that happens to be a fan of Markus Schulz is certainly familiar with his city series concept in which he would dedicate an album to the city that impressed him the most over the year. In 2015 he decided to take things to the next level by constructing a track for each city that left its mark on him. It started with “Bayfront (Miami)” and followed with “Bine Facut (Bucharest)” together with Tom Boxer, “Golden Gate (San Francisco)”, “This Generation (Indio)”, “Bombay (Mumbai)”, “Lost in the Box (London)”, “Daybreak” (Boom)”, “Avalon (Los Angeles)”, “Cathedral (Montreal)”, “Dancing in the Red Light (Amsterdam)” and “The Creation (Prague)” along with Nifra.

It all ends with the final chapter of this endeavor which is dedicated to the grand city of New York. He is not alone in this creation and has enlisted Dutch hyper duo Fisherman and Hawkins who have also produced heavyweight anthems of their own over the past years. We embark on a tough and aggressive stroll through the bustling and crowd filled streets of New York. Markus and the guys are masters at serenading us with a distinguished variety of high-powered vibes and emotional, vibrant soundscapes that perfectly represent the city that never sleeps. Haunting melodies, anthemic leads and darkness seeping in through every inch of this are to be expected. Majestic, regal and cutting edge like the metropolis itself there is no stopping the tendency to move. Every muscle in our body urges us to get up and sway to the beat while feeling the rush of this vibrant, living breathing city.

Review: Dan Thompson & Ron Alperin “The Punisher”

Englishman Dan Thompson is surely an artist which has been making his own ripples in the wild rapids of dance music. Here we see him teaming up with newcomer to the scene Israeli Ron Alperin. Ron can be joyous indeed as he already has had a nice string of releases on labels such as Coldharbour and AEZ Recordings. It was only logical that these two had to get together in the music lab and create a monster. This is the honest truth as “The Punisher” is a track that will be talked about amongst dance music enthusiasts for quite some time! Combining their musical cores and influences as one, the result is nothing short of amazing. ”The Punisher” delivers some serious punishment on the dance floor, infused with raw energy and a lead that remains intact in one’s memory. The eerie vocal snippets combined with the dark atmosphere prepare us for what lays ahead. Once the break arrives and the epic melody takes over, the temperature begins to rise, as the soaring lead infiltrates our mind and we feel ourselves being taken over by an invisible force urging us to dance frantically to the beat. Open your ears and let “The Punisher” enforce you to dance!

Dan Thompson & Ron Alperin “The Punisher” is available now on Coldharbour Recordings as part of the EP ‘Markus Schulz Presents Coldharbour Selections: Part 39 – Trance Nation Edition’.  Additional tracks on the EP include Danilo Ercole “Format” and Artisan “World’s Apart”.

New World Punx Bang

Review: New World Punx “Bang”

A few years ago Markus Schulz and Ferry Corsten joined forces and formed New World Punx, a name that derives from each artist’s hit signature track (Markus Schulz with “The New World” and Ferry Corsten with “Punk”). As individual artists they have seen some of the highest recognition in their field. Both pioneers in creating a defining and unique sound that has separated them from the masses within the industry. Set on leaving their footprint in the industry pavement as a duo, they began collaborating in the studio and performing together as New World Punx at various events around the world. After a successful array of heavy hitters under their belt which include “Romper”, “Torque”,”Pullover”, “Memories” featuring Cara Salimando plus a few other tracks performed during live sets, the creative minds of the dynamic duo have just released their latest track “Bang”.

Just as the title “Bang” suggests, it’s pure dynamite immediately from the very first seconds of the track. The listener instantly feels themselves captivated by the beat, adrenaline coursing through their veins as the race is on. The heavy percussion and infectious vocal phrase urges the listener to start moving almost hypnotically like a slave to the rhythm. The massive drum beat sets the pace as the epic lead sweeps in, infused by electro hybrid fragments elevating the senses and endorphins. This combination has all the right components just as the styles of the two artists have blended, in a perfect amalgamation of sound showcasing each one’s signature sound and influences thus creating the perfect beat.

Guaranteed to destroy any dance floor worldwide to shreds, “Bang” is quite an understatement to the vast magnitude of this one!
